Happy Thoughts Are Good First Aid for the Ailing
Being confined to the hospital for whatever reason can be quite depressing. From morning until noon and night time, to be surrounded by people who are sick or in pain and knowing that you are, in fact, one of them, can be a real strain on any patient’s nerves. While it may have the positive effect of motivating the patient to get better quickly so he or she can leave as soon as possible, it is often a depressant rather than a motivator. The stress could also pose more detriment to the patient’s health.
Flowers, chocolates and unique gift baskets such as the First Aid for the Ailing are actually, well, first aid for the ailing. What a patient needs most from people other than their doctor or nurses is something to lift their spirits. It could be an inspirational book or music, his favorite food or chocolates, some flowers to brighten up the room or a special collection of all these packed gaily inside a picnic basket. Assuming he or she is not allergic to any of this and that his or her diet is not so restricted, the patient will surely benefit from much more happy thoughts.
Some studies have already indicated the connection between spirit, mind and body; specifically, that negative thoughts will likely manifest its negativity in one or another part of the body through aches, pains or sickness, in general. Happy thoughts and a balanced disposition would, on the other hand, lead to continued health or accelerated healing.
While these theories may sound more like fantasy fairy tale to some, I would like to think that more people consider it a logical connection and that it has demonstrated its effects in reality.
